Support for the demonstration against the World Economic Forum (WEF)

Dear friends,

On Monday, the 27th of November the Anti-WTO coordination submitted a request for a permit for a demonstration (see attachment) against the WEF for the 27th of January 2001 in Davos. Last year the region of Davos refused to authorize a similar application for a permit to demonstrate with flimsy argumentation. The federal court, however, declared the objection to this demonstration restriction for valid, and directed the officials to reexamine the request of the Anti-WTO Coordination. The verdict in this process is still pending.
The Anti-WTO Coordination expects the region Davos to handle the request for the demonstration permit in year 2001 quickly and positively. The extensive participation in the demonstration last year in Davos, the successful demonstrations in Prague, in Melbourne, Seattle, Geneva, and the approaching demonstration in Nice, are an expression of the international movement of resistance against the globalization of the exploitation of humanity and environment. This development can not be restrained by narrow-minded prohibition-policies.
With the demonstration planned against the WEF, we are protesting against an economic policy, which intensifies the injustice between north and south, and worsens in particular the situation of women. We are depending on your support in order to give the necessary emphasis to the application for the demonstration permit this coming year. For this reason we are you to sign the Platform of Action against the WTO, and accordingly, whether you will join in making the request for a demonstration permit for the 27th of January. Subsequently we will submit, to the region Davos, a list of all of the organizations that have signed the Platform, as a supplement to the demonstration permit request.

In case you have any questions about our procedure, please contact the person who placed the permit application (Walter Angst, 079 288.56.92.).

Greetings and solidarity,
Anti-WTO Coordination
